Classes For 2020

Assalaamu Alaykum All Friends, Students & Family Members

For the first time since its inception more than 30 years ago have we started a new year without running any classes.  This was due to a number of reasons which includes the fact that the principal, Ustaadh Idrees (also known as Ustaadh At-Tayyibah), has been ill at the beginning of this year. Secondly, alternative days (other than Sundays) are being considered for weekly classes, as well as structured online classes.

We have thus decided to only start all new classes after Ramadhan this year (which will end around 23 May 2020).  We are therefore looking at starting new weekday evening classes during June 2020, In-Sha-Allah - depending on venue availability and the Covid-19!

Due to the spread of the Corona Virus (Covid-19) in South Africa, many other institutions have now stopped their classes which started at the beginning of this year.  All public schools and most tertiary institutions have also stopped classes, from today (Wednesday 18 March 2020), following the directive of President Ramaphosa (SA Schools closure).  Even mosques have closed their doors and stopped all activities including all community classes (Mosques Close Doors).  The MJC initially called for mosques to close and suspend all Jumu'ah gatherings for at least 4 weeks, but has since rescinded their decision and issued a new fatwah: calling on mosques to remain open but to ensure that the 100 person limit during gatherings (as requested by President Ramaphosa) is adhered to.

The Madrasah At-Tayyibah School of Arabic is leaning towards online classes in the near future.  A trail run was done during last year with a small group using WhatsApp as the main medium of correspondence. This will most probably be done again later this year while other avenues for online classes are being explored.

Prospective students will be informed in due course regarding all available options for studying Arabic via our school.

Shukran
