New Arabic & Quran Classes during 2026 in Cape Town

The following courses will be presented during this year 2026:

2.  Understand The Noble Quran - This course is aimed at Beginners who can read the Arabic Script;

3.  Speak Arabic Today - This course will teach new students how to successfully and confidently Speak Arabic;

4.  How to Successfully Study Arabic - This short course will guide the student to use a variety of skills, strategies and apps to successfully study the Arabic Language whether they attend physical or online classes, or study completely on their own.

New Arabic Classes in Cape Town

 Assalaamu Alaykum Everyone

Alhamdu-li-laah!  Yes, we have finally secured a suitable venue (The DMA Centre at 83 Jupiter Road, Surrey Estate, Athlone, Cape Town) and will therefore present the following new courses on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 09:30 to 12:00.  These courses will run from Tuesday 23 September to Thursday 27 November 2025.

So, you are most welcome to join us during this 10-week journey, which will most definitely serve as your key towards further studies in Arabic and Understanding the Noble Quran.

There will be two sessions every Tuesday & Thursday Morning:  One for the Read & Write Arabic with Understanding Course and one for the Understand Al-Quran Course.  Each course will be done over two one-hour sessions per week, with a short break in between (40 hours in total in class). Students are encouraged to take both courses for maximum benefit.

Learn Arabic with Animated Videos - while having lots of fun!

I've finally completed the first Short Animated Video Lesson, which covers the initial dialogue of one of the episodes from the Series Mughaamaraat Mushaakis (مُغَامرات مشاكس): The adventures of Mushaakis.  This short (10 minute) Video Lesson (Everyone Needs Exercise) covers part of the dialogue from the original episode (mentioned above) with the Arabic Text and the English Text provided, as well as Transliterated Text provided in Large Format in Speech Bubbles - which will assist the Non-Arabic Speaker in understanding the text and the Arabic Audio.  I've also added some audio comments in English, which include the English Translation of the Arabic Audio.

The idea is to provide further support on this blog/ site, in the form of Grammatical or Structural explanations, so that the learner or viewer can understand the Arabic Audio better and simultaneously learn the Structure of the Arabic Language.

New Read Arabic in a Matter of Minutes!

A little over a month ago we launched a New Programme: Read Arabic in a Matter of (3-5) Minutes!

Al-hamdu-lillah, thus far 15 of these short 3-5 minute Video Lessons are available via Our YouTube Channel: At-Tayyibah School of Arabic 

These lessons are primarily for those who want to learn to Read Arabic in general, as well as those who want to Read Al-Quran.  The big difference to the many other Read Arabic Programmes available is that most other programmes tend to teach the reading of all the letters of the Arabic Alphabet first, then they introduce Tajwid (The Science of Beautifying Quran Reading).  Most of these programmes do not attempt to teach the Arabic Language though, so they do not give translations of the words, nor do they give sentences.  On the other hand most the programmes and apps that do attempt to teach Arabic as a language, do not bother to teach the alphabet (or they do not do so in a systematic manner).  

These programmes mentioned above are fine for specific learners who only want to learn those specific skills, we however discovered that there are many people who cannot seem to learn much from them, therefore they still cannot read the Arabic Script or they read Al-Quran fluently (some with beautiful Tajwid), but they do not have much understanding of the Arabic Language.

Welcome back to studying the Most Amazing Arabic Language

Let me first of all apologize to those of you who had hoped that we would start earlier in the year (Mid-February, as I intended), but that has not materialized.  Apologies once again.  I also mentioned that I intend to conduct a number of short courses for those who prefer attending classes in person, but that has also not materialized as yet.  One of the problems was that I had hoped to make use of a new venue, but the mosque in question was in the process of appointing a new imam, so they have still not come back to me regarding the request to use their premises...  I will probably only start conducting face-to-face classes later in the year (from July 2024)

What's Next? First of all, I'll restart the Enjoy Arabic More programme for the sake of new students & those who would like to revise.  I will therefore resend all the links sent during last year during this week and next week (i.e. the first two weeks of Ramadhaan: The month of Fasting).  Thereafter I will start sending the New Video Lessons.   I'm also hoping to start sending the Video Lessons of the New Read Arabic Course:  Reading & Writing Names in Arabic from next week, In-Sha-Allah!  The course is aimed at Absolute Beginners who cannot read Arabic at all!  Each lesson will introduce a few names (of people or places).  The student will then be shown the Arabic writing of these names.  Only certain letters/ sounds in these names will be highlighted to be learnt during the lesson.  The meanings of the names and more info about the letters/ sounds will be given towards the end of the lesson.  Students who can already read the Arabic script, should also find these lessons interesting, since it will teach them about writing names in Arabic (a subject which is normally not covered extensively during traditional Arabic Classes).  They will also be able to use these Video Lessons to help friends and family members who cannot read the Arabic Script.

New Arabic Classes & Courses During 2024

 Assalamu Alaykum  (السلام عليكم) Everyone!

Welcome ( أهلا وسهلا)!

New Lessons During 2024

I decided to take a break during December 2023 and part of January 2024.  What can I say?  I just needed to recalibrate and re-energize for the New Year!

As mentioned before, I decided to produce more video & audio lessons, more frequently during this year, In-Sha-Allah!  I shall therefore use less transitions & effects in future in order to accomplish this goal.  Those students who are following the Enjoy Arabic - Book One Video Lessons, may access the text, i.e. the pages of the book via the Enjoy Arabic Blog (See Pages: Lesson One, etc. on Right Pane).  I'll continue to share the text Lessons in advance for the benefit of those who wish to study ahead & not be slowed down by the Video Lessons.  It is however advisable to still watch the videos, when they are shared, in order to internalize the concepts. 

I shall also conduct a number of short courses during this year for those who wish to attend classes in person.  I am awaiting confirmation on a venue in the Athlone area (in Cape Town, South Africa).  Once confirmed, I'll announce the course/s that I'll be presenting.  These courses will probably start mid-February 2024.  Students who cannot attend at the venue, may register to take the course via WhatsApp.

I shall also be sharing a New Read Arabic Course, aimed at complete beginners. The focus of this course shall be Reading & Writing Names in Arabic.  This course will be suitable to all beginners (even those who cannot read a single letter in Arabic), irrespective of age! 

Students who wish to Speak Arabic, may visit my Speak Arabic Today blog .  I'll be sharing those lessons via this platform as well.  I also intend to share the audios soon, in-Sha-Allah!

Faster Results in Learning Conversational Arabic!

 Assalaamu Alaykum Everyone!

I have decided on a new approach to the presentation of the Enjoy Arabic More programme.  In future, after the presentations (videos) of  Lesson Two - from Lesson Three onwards, I shall present the Reading and Writing exercises separately from the Vocabulary & Sentences.  So, I shall initially concentrate on the latter (Vocabulary & Sentences), in order to expedite the Conversational aspect of the Enjoy Arabic programme.

I believe this will yield faster results, since it seems evident, judging by the difference in views that most people who are currently following the programme, are more interested in communicating in Arabic. 

Those students who still lack the skills in Reading Arabic, should concentrate on  improving that skill by following my current Read Arabic Today programmes.  I have provided a complete programme (in pdf format), which is available via the Enjoy Arabic More blog (EAMB), as well as my dedicated Read Arabic Today blog. The Read Arabic Today Video Lessons are based on the original programme, but does not follow it strictly.  In fact by following the Video Lessons,one should improve both the Reading and Understanding of what is read faster.  All the videos that have been produced thus far, are currently also available via the EAMB. 

Those students (who lack the Read Arabic skills) can still follow the current programme, since it is in video format, hence all words are shown and read.  In addition to this all new vocabulary are introduced with transliterations as well.  

Finally, in order to produce the videos faster, I will have to reduce the amount of animations (which I prefer not to do, but it will have the desired result).

Please make dua that Allah Almighty grant me the energy, strength & conviction to complete these programmes in the shortest possible time.

Learn 5 Arabic letters - Read 12 Sentences!

 

 As-Salaamu Alaykum Students & Friends!

Read 12 short Arabic sentences and learn to distinguish between statements and questions using أَ [a] (and هَلْ [hal]) in Arabic - while only using 5 letters of the Arabic Alphabet! This is the fourth short video to help beginners to read Arabic, and to help those who can read - improve their reading and understanding of the Arabic Language. The five letters of the word البنت [al-bintu] are used in 12 short sentences. These 12 sentences contain only these 5 letters - and no other letters (except for the هـ  [h] in [hal]), to help readers to gain confidence in reading Arabic, even though they might only know 5 letters! In the previous 3 short videos about 34 words were covered with only these 5 letters.  Now, in this video you'll learn to read 12 sentences using only these 5 letters! At the end of the video, there is a short quiz to check if you have mastered reading and understanding (by translating) these few sentences!

By the way, the 34 words covered in these short videos appear more than 15 000 times in Al-Quran! (See: Read ARABIC Today: Introduction  for more info on this.)

 These videos present Module One which form part of the series whereby the whole Arabic alphabet will be introduced to non-Arabs a few letters at a time.  Most other approaches introduce the entire alphabet, before covering any words or meanings.  On the other hand, those who wish to teach the Arabic language either assumes the learner can already read the Arabic script or they might use transliteration.

The problem I've discovered during years of teaching adults (as well as teenagers) is that many students attempt to learn the Arabic language without having a solid command of the Arabic script.  Some even think that learning Arabic means learning how to read the Arabic script - period.  This perception used to be quite prevalent among non-Arabic speaking Muslims, especially since many Muslims still only desire to read the Arabic script in order to read Al-Quran without necessarily understanding what they read.  

Unfortunately this concept is perpetuated by the many Hifdh Schools in our societies, who do sterling work in terms of teaching students to read and memorize Al-Quran, but very few (to my knowledge) make any attempt to teach the Arabic language.  

This series of videos do not replace a language acquisition programme, it merely aims to help those who find it difficult to learn the Arabic script for reading Al-Quran or for the sake of gaining access to learning to speak or understand the language in order to enable them to read texts written in Arabic.

Change of Starting dates of New Courses for 2023

 

السلام عليكم 

The date of course 2  (Beginners Arabic/ Understand The Noble Quran [UNQ]) has been changed to coincide with the Speak Arabic Today Course on 4 September 2023.

I've also decided to offer the Enjoy Arabic - Book One Course first this year to introduce the subject to beginners who never studied Arabic before and to younger learners (which should also benefit those who want to start their journey with a Simplified Course).  So, the Understand Al-Quran Course will be offered during 2024, Insha-Allah!

The main reason for this is the aim of making all courses available via Video Format.  Due the colourful nature and the amount of animations, the process of producing the videos is taking much longer than initially anticipated.  I have also encountered a few problems with the software I've been using, but those have mainly been solved.  In addition to these factors, I have been experimenting with the use of a variety of programmes, in order to benefit the students as much as possible.  So, to those who have been waiting anxiously, I do apologize - but I'd rather take longer and produce course materials that would be much more effective.    

The new dates are as follows:

Those students who have preregistered must please take note of the date changes.  The cost of courses 2 & 3 will be finalized before the end of July 2023. Don't worry, our courses have always been among the most affordable. The UNQ Course will be offered at the Heideveld Mosque in Athlone, Cape Town.  It may be offered elsewhere, but this will be confirmed soon.  It will also be offered via WhatsApp simultaneously.  Students who register may attend the classes at the Mosque, which will take place once a week, or they may follow the course via WhatsApp or both.
